This thread on the Arkansas really got me thinking ( pretty dangerous) about the fact that I know very little about the 1860's technology on steam engines, boilers and reducing gears, etc. As my place of employment has boilers, turbines, etc. that I am required to work on, I would like to learn more about the technology available at the time of the WOTR.
Anyone point me to some good sources of information on this subject?
