Greetings all,
I think it would be interesting to know how everyone here first got interested in ironclads. My introduction came in the fourth or fifth grade when I picked up a book called "Ironclads of the American Civil War" by Frank Donovan. Of course, I didn't have a clue what an ironclad was, but the painting on the cover depicting the Monitor/Virginia duel fascinated me; I thought maybe these ships were submarines of some sort. I was hooked, and my first homemade ironclad was a styrofoam egg carton with empty thread spools for cannons!
