Bruce, Hook up with the National Archives, they are on the internet. Some knowledge of the man's duty stations and place of residence will narrow down the search.

Rounders was the name of the game at the time of the Great Unpleasentness. Many of the facets of the present game of Baseball were inherent in Rounders. Gloves were optional and were the same ones the drovers used in handling their mules. Runners rounding the bases were not tagged, the ball was thrown at them. Contact with the runner before contact with a base indicated an out. This game of Rounders was present both North and South.

A game of Rounders was in progress when Daniel's Mulattoes moved inland, cancelling play. The site of the last rounders game in the Confederacy is still, for the moment, a field. It will be replaced by a police substation soon. The location is 61st Ave. E. between 15th St. E. and 12th St. E., Bradenton, Florida. Pittsburg's Pirates are the resident team here in town, with winter training facilities at McKechnie Field on 9th St. West.
