Hello -

On page 174 of Paul H. Silverstone's book "Warships of the Civil War Navies" (1989, Naval Institute Press) there is a photo of the Federal tinclad USS Marmora.

In the background of this photo there is another tinclad shown in the distance. This tinclad seems to have a fuzzy number "5" on its pilothouse.

Can this possibly be the Federal tinclad USS Petrel (No. 5) that is in the background of this photo?????

Does anyone have access to the original of this image of the USS Marmora and/or access to computer/digital photo enhancement equipment?????

Would DEARLY love to find out if the tinclad in the background of the USS Marmora photo is indeed the USS Petrel (No. 5).
