CSS Atlanta's demise

There had been an exchange of msgs on this subject some months ago, but briefly it appears that the CSS Atlanta had been sold off as surplus, to a NY company with offices located in Philadelphia, after being laid up in the USN Dockyard in Philadelphia she left Philadelphia and got as far as South Delaware where she remained a short while waiting for possible instructions on her final destination in Haiti.

She was never seen again following her departure from the Delaware anchorage. You should remember she was not designed as a seagoing vessel but was designed for inland water operations, she was known to have a tendency to leak in the area of her port sponson due to poor workmanship during construction, she had been laid up for quite some time before sailing so its debatable as to whether she was really seaworthy,

We dont know if she was crewed by qualified people, we dont know if they used a proper loading plan to set the correct trim, we dont really know how many people had shipped out nor what, or if, any cargo was aboard, so its not really surprising that she vanished!!

Where is she now? Could be anywhere from the Delaware Capes to South of Florida, your choice.
