Joseph Pitty Couthouy, as with any generation involved in a war ever, would probably have been involved in the occupation he loved rather than crewing a warship. Couthouy specialized in the study of Mollusca; many Linnean classifications bear his name.

I ran a search of the surname and dicovered that it has died out through the male line.
