Re: collectors op? re Indianola

I was just shocked to learn that the copyright on this book does not expire until the year 2021. The daughter of the author of the book (a Confederate general) renewed the copyright in 1954, and therefore got another 67 years of copyright. She died two years later, and her descendants, if she had any, would be difficult, if not impossible, to track down. So, no reprints anytime soon on this book.

For anyone who thinks this is a good thing for authors, consider this. Her daddy's book and the story of his heroic exploits will now remain out of print and unseen for at least another 15 years, whereas if she had not renewed the copyright - which, by the way, never made or will make her or her descendants one red cent - maybe the book would come out in reprint version and people would be reading about him still.
