Al, I did a lot of research on the men aboard the USS AGAWAM, over several years, and one of the sources I consulted was the Maine State Archives, which does hold carded records of Naval personnel from that state. There were a number of men on the AGAWAM who were from Kittery itself.
The carded records from the Archives include the names of vessels these men served on, and in some cases other biographical data.
I would also suggest consulting newspapers of the period, which may include details of the men you seek, such as obituaries, etc.
