Terry, thanks. I was wondering if the Exchange had switched to rifled cannon later in the war. What brought the Exchange to my attention was while re-reading reports of Marmaduke's brigade, with Pratt's and Hughy's battery attached, attacking the Exchange and hitting the boat 35 times. Marmaduke's largest peice was a 20 pounder and most were 10,12 and 6 pounders. If they (Exchange) were still armed with the big smoothbores, it seemed to me that at the short distance, they could have put the land artillery out of commission. This is just conjecture on my part.
