Upon the Waters: Naval Steam Launch Re-enactors

T'was curious to know if any 1860's emulators who frequent this discussion forum also possess and/or operate period design vertical boiler steam launches as part of their activites.

The reason for my asking is that, along with many others, members of the North American Steamboat Association will be participating (along with their equipment suppliers) in Steam Tug BALTIMORE'S centennial birthday celebration in Baltimore Harbor this coming October 20-21-22, and I was wondering if any naval re-enactors' group or individual naval re-enactor will be among them.

I know that some on this board, like Dan Cashin and Don Fischer, are from the Philly area and that prompts me to ask if many here know about the Philadelphia Wooden Boat Factory? They hold classes every so often on basic wooden boat building such as lofting, setting up, steam bending, spiling, planking and spar making.

Their site is at:

www dot woodenboatfactory dot org

and can be reached by phone at: 215-755-2400.

Whether by oar or under steam, some think that naval operators ought to be conducting their manoeuvers on or near the banks of rivers and inlets instead of at 'most' inland military outings. It's within your power to make it so.
