I have information that Perkins and the Brilliant were in operation in the defense of Henderson, Kentucky on July 17, 1862. Henderson was taken by the Rebels for a day and Perkins told them to leave town or get shelled. If it was purchased by the war department in August could it still have been in US service before that time (under lease or under US Army service)?
