There may be remains of two other uncompleted ironclads of the same class in the obstructions at Mobile. These were intended to be finished at Mobile and were tied up for completion at a wharf there before the Battle of Mobile Bay. Then there is the Phoenix. This vessel is a bit confusing because there is at least one mention in the OR's that the Phoenix was burned. There was an examination of the obstructions that identified what seemed to be a side-wheel ironclad corresponding to Phoenix, but no mention of burning. There was at least one more of this class which was damaged during launching and reported sold to recover some of the costs. Just what was done with the uncompleted vessel is a mystery. There are also reports of two square, straight sided armored floating batteries at Mobile. I've never seen anything on their disposition either.
