I have seen conflicting reports of the destruction of White Hall (Maison Blanc) plantation. One report says it burned down in the late 1850s, and another report, from a website of an historical house (now a bed & bkfst) on the original property, claims the house was shelled by Union gunboat(s).

But, perhaps, both are correct. Could the latter be the incident you're referring to here?
