Pardon me for disappearing for a few hours. I had to run home. You are surely correct about the loss of Bainbridge being in a class by itself. I can't lay my hands on any reference texts at the moment but I suspect Mound City had a significantly larger crew than Tecumseh because of the larger number of guns. And that pretty much exhausts my knowledge of the subject.

Just a quick observation on the reliability of local/oral history: When the water in the White River is low, locals in the St. Charles area still insist that the wreckage of the Mound City, "blowed up by a single shot in her boiler," is visible.
