Jim, the Naval Official Records, series 2, volume 1, includes a very short roster of two officers and eight landsmen from the CSS INDIAN CHIEF. It should be understood that the INDIAN CHIEF was a receiving vessel, and many of the naval recruits were there for a very short time, during the period of their induction, before being sent on to their official postings. There would have been some record of their short service on the INDIAN CHIEF, but whether these records have survived or not is another matter. They may have been sent on to the Navy Department in Richmond, but then, these may have been destroyed when the city was evacuated in April, 1865.
The National Archives includes many, many records within obscure files, and a thorough check of all these records would probably take a lifetime, if not longer. Perhaps Hill would be listed amongst the records of those Army personnel who transferred to the Navy, which can also be found at the NA.
