Ed: I believe you are actually referring to the 'Grampus' which served as a receiving ship for the Mississippi Squadron. Originally named 'Ion' she was purchased by Rear Admiral D. D. Porter in July of 1863 and was statoned at Cincinnati and Mound City, IL, for most of the war.
