Question about CW Naval uniforms (CS)?

Hello again all,
I have a question or two about Confederate enlisted sailers uniforms. I have seen offered at one place repro uniforms for enlisted naval personel (CS). But some of the shirts are grey with white cuffs and flap on collar, some are all white with blue piping and ensignia. I have seen those funny looking, sort of flat looking hats in grey and white, and grey pants and white pants.

My question is this: Who wore what when? Was it the captain's discretion as to what his men wore, white or grey? Was it depending on what vessel you were on. Or was it the seasons of the year, cool or hot weather? I have thought of getting into naval reenacting and/or living history as a typical C.S. Navy sailer but have no idea what to order or buy; white, grey or what?
Any help, info, or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dave
