Re: New Iago
In Response To: New Iago ()

Some basic data from the volume, DICTIONARY OF TRANSPORTS AND COMBATANT VESSELS, STEAM AND SAIL, EMPLOYED BY THE UNION ARMY, 1861-1868, compiled by Charles Dana Gibson and E. Kay Gibson, indicates that the sternwheel steamer, NEW IGO, was chartered on several occasions for operations on the Arkansas River. It was captured and burned by guerrillas on the Arkansas River, June 12, 1864. The owners were not compensated by the government, thus indicating that she was probably not in Army service at that time. The original information comes from three sources, including the Official Records of the Army and Quartermaster Records at the National Archives.
