Hello Barrett- Lt. William Alexander,Pvt. Co. C 21st Alabama, was detailed to the firm of Park&Lyons, macinists and fabricators in Mobile, Alabama to rifle the barrels of pattern 1848 "Mississippi" muskets. He became involved in the building of the C.S.S. Hunley submarine when Watson & Co. shuffled in the door after escaping the fall of lower Louisiana in April, 1862. Alexander became the XO of that boat in Charleston, being recalled to Park and Lyons right before the attack on the U.S.S. Housatonic to construct "repeating cannon". I'm fair sure that the ordnance was the Mclane (Sp?) gun and not the Williams but I'm not certain.
Any knowledge of this appreciated.
Regards
