Re: wiggins' battery, 3rd Arkansas light artillery

Here is a brief history of the battery, I hope it will help you. This battery was formed on July 15th, 1861 as the Clarke County Artillery. It was commanded by Captain Franklin Roberts and had two 6 pounder bronze smoothbore field guns and two 12 pounder bronze howitzers. After a brief service in northeast Arkansas, it was sent to the Bowling Green, Kentucky area along with the military forces commanded by General William Hardee. As part of the army commanded by General Albert S. Johnston, it retreated from Bowling Green after the fall of Forts Henry and Donelson, to and through Nashville, Tennessee. It arrived in Corinth, Mississippi as part of the concentration of confederate forces that moved up to attack the union forces of General Grant that became known as the Battle of Shiloh. The battery was down to about 60 men and the four cannon. It continued service in the confederate Army of Tennessee and its campaigns including Battle of Stone's River, the Tullahoma Campaign, Chickamauga, Chattanouga, Atlanta campaign, and othersd. In December 1862, Captain Jannedine H. Wiggins became commander of the battery and led it until the end of the war. It was converted to horse artillery and served with a cavalry command. The ended for Wiggin's battery on April 26th, 1865 at Durham Station, North Carolina.
