Good answer but a little off the mark. The 12 pound light gun known as the "Napoleon" was the most effective SMOOTHBORE cannon during the civil war and was very popular with the troops. But the napoleon was really of the old technology. Artillery was going rifled and the napoleon disappeared from the scence after the war. As artillery was changing (rifling, better metaligy, improved metal, longer range) guns became more specialized with new types introduced. Another civil war gun was more durable during and after the war. What was it?
