Mr. Black,

Firstly, I do not appreciate the tone I detect in your response to my post. That having been said, the sources I have, and while will admit that there are elements of truth in your original post, The Quitman Light Artillery, was organized in April 1861 NOT May 1862. William Lovell was the first Commander of this battery, and Richard T. English was the second commander, but the Quitman Light Artillery was disbanded shortly after that. It was Captain English's Battery (also from Natchez) that served at Port Hudson and did no service in MS. Your original post also does not mention that the Quitman Light Artillery did service in Fla. Lastly, I am fully aware of what is in the O.R. and the Quitman Light Artllery is only mentioned in the tables of MS commands. My sources are the O.R., service records and newspaper accounts as well as secondary sources.
