The Quitman Light Artillery from Natchez MS was organized in May 1862 and was commanded by Captain William S. Lovell. After brief service in Mississippi, it was sent into the defences of Port Hudson, Louisiana. Early in 1863, Captain Richard T. English succeded to command of the battery and the battery continued service at Port Hudson until it was surrendered with the fall of Port Hudson in July 1863. The battery was down to 40 men just before the surrender. After being paroled, the battery did not reorganize and passed into history.
