Brynes Kentucky battery started its organization in Mississippi and completed formation at Camp ??? near Nashville TN. This explains why men from Mississippi were in the battery. They were equipped with four 6 pounder bronze smoothbore field guns and two 12 pounder bronze field howitzers early in their career. An additional 6 pounder field gun was added as a trophy gun, being a captured gun. This was their equipment at the time of the Battle of Shiloh. They were the only seven gun confederate field battery. As batteries of both sides often changed the guns they were equipped with, for various reasons, this may have changed before the battery was disbanded in early 1863. Captain Brynes resigned after becoming angry and dissatisfied with his situation in the confederate army.
