Great post, link, and photo Joe. I have a new book of interest too. Not sure if it's viewable online. Published after the war it is "Manual Of Heavy Artillery Service: For the Use of the Army and Militia of the United States", by John Caldwell Tidball. It was first published in 1891. Tidball worked his way up through the ranks of the Army in the WBTS. His official rank at the time of publishing was Brevet Brigadier General, Colonel Retired, United States Army. He later became Colonel First Regiment of Artillery and Commandant United States Artillery School. His Great Great Grandson gave me the book. Tidball was a pretty well documented officer in the Artillery. He was probably best known as Captain of Company A, Second United States Artillery during the war. Thought I would share.
