missing service recs. for Brookhaven Light Art.

(also posted on the MS board)

I am trying to help a lady find the service record for one Pvt. Elias Bowman, who was a soldier in Hoskin's Battery/Brookhaven Light Artillery.
I went to USM today to get his service record, and I was shocked to find that, while the service records for Hoskin's Battery do exist, they only start with Corp. Wm. J. Putnam.

The rolls are alphabetical, and all of the rest of the men that should follow Putnam seem to be there, but there are literally no records for any name that alphabetically precedes "Putnam."

Does anyone know if these "missing" service records for Hoskin's Battery/Brookhaven Light Artillery exist somewhere? Anywhere? How can I get this man's record? Are they available from our sources on this site ("i.e., at the top of the page")?

I have the one page from the master/index roll that says Bowman was a member of HB/BLA, but nothing else.

Thanks! -- Jim Huffman, Gainesville Vols/43rd MS Inf.
