cannonball fraud?

I bought a cannonball on the Butterfly Vintage website. This Cannonball is very clean, is exactly twelve pounds, and measures 4.62" across. However, when I described the cannonball to an expert on these things, they told me it was not a real cannonball. Well, after seeing other cannonballs on other websites, I am convinced that this is a real cannonball. What do you think? This was bought from a reputable civil war dealer who advertised it as a genuine cannonball, weighs exactly what other cannonballs do that are that size, has a barely dicernable circle around its middle, and a copper plug where the fuse usually is located. the plug has initals G.H.L. on it. Civil war buffs, what do you think? Is this the real thing or not? If so, what kind of a gun was it fired from? Thanks for your help. Dave
