small Confederate? cannon

My friend has a small cannon, which has raised lettering of about 1/8" relief. with "CSA" and the date "1864" just beneath it on top of the barrel near the breech. The lettering is approximately 1.5" in height. There are no other marks, names, or numbers on the cannon. The cannon appears to be made of iron, and the smooth bore is 2.5". The barrel itself is about 37" total length back to the black knob in back of the breech. It is 16.5" from the muzzle to the trunions. It measures about 14" across from the end of one trunion to the other. The muzzle has a raised ring about 1.5" wide cast in it, and there is a similar one at the breech. There is an area about 6" from the breech, which is about 1/2" smaller in diameter than the rest of the barrel. The barrel is about 8" in diameter at the breech. All of the rammers, etc. are there. The only changes in the carriage is that someone has removed the wheels and substituted what appear to be steel McCormick two row cultivator wheels. Is this possibly a mountain howitzer, or is it Civil war vintage at all? We have no other information. It was bought in Boone county (Harrison) where the old man who owned it reportedly took it around to reinactments.
