Sgt. Reed of Bedford Lt Art at Sailor's Creek

A short but interesting biography of Sergeant James Clayton Reed of the Bedford Light Artillery appears in Confederate Military History, Extended Addition, volume IV (Virginia), p. 1135. It includes a testimonial from his captain, John Daniel Smith, who writes, "At Sailor's Creek, on the last battlefield, Sgt. Reed, who had lost an arm at Sharpsburg, but had returned to duty in the field, distinguished himself by his energy into getting into action a recaptured gun."
