In reading an account of Kershaws Brigade at the Battle of 1st Manassass/Bull Run the reference is made to the capture of a particular artillery piece that was abandoned during the federals panic retreat. This gun was appearently of some reputation and was known as "Long TOM". What kind of gun was this and why was it so noted?
