Pelican Battery

I have been tracing my greatgrandfather's Civil War enlistment. He was a native of Louisiana and fought in the Confederate Army.

I have reason to believe that he was in the CSA Trans-Mississippi Department, Third Battalion Field Artillery, Company D, "Pelican Battery." His name was Theogene (Theogaine) Oubre. He enlisted at Thibodaux, La. October 1862 and was paroled 5 June 1865 at Alexandria, La.

He served with the following officers - not necessarily at the same time:
Major J.A. Fairies
1st. Lieutenant John A. Tarkton
Captain Thomas Ricks
Captain Winchester
Lieutenant Winchester
Lieutenant Gaudet

In order to locate more information I would have to know who his commanding General was and what larger military unit the Third Battalion Field Artillery was a part of.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
