Re: Lewis' Artillery
In Response To: Lewis' Artillery ()

It depends on the context and which state this artillery unit was from. There was a Virginia battery, the Pittsylvania Artillery, commanded by Capt. John W. Lewis. The unit served with 1st Corps, Army of Northern virginia from 1862 until June, 1863, when it was assigned to the new 3rd Corps, ANV. This battery is alledged to have fired the last artillery round of the Army of Northern Virginia. It surrendered at Appomattox Court House, Virginia on April 9, 1865 as part of Poague's Artillery Batallion, 3rd Corps, ANV.

Hope this helps.
