I have been working on the Whitfield / Ross Texas Cavalry Brigade for some time and have woundered how I can find the artillery that was put in support of the cavalry or visa versa. I see the Order of Battle for many battles and can see what units work together, but they artillery in support of cavalry was a little harder. In Griscom's Diary of the 9th Texas Cavalry some other units were mentioned, during the Atlanta Campaign, a pair of rifled cannon were captured and presented to General Ross. Did he create a new battery to use them, or were they given to his artillery that operated with his brigade? What other artillery supported this brigade from its conception in December 1862 to the end of the war. Regiments involved, 1st Texas Legion (27th Texas Cavalry Regiment) and 3rd, 6th and 9th Texas Cavalry Regiments. Other Mississippi and Arkansas regiments were occasionally with them. I would appreciate any info I can get. I would like to add the artillery and other supporting units to my web page.
