8" mortar shell with letters "JW"

I recently acquired an 8", 41 lb mortar shell from a gentlemen who got it at a scrap yard in Montgomery about 35 years ago. I suspect the letters "JW" stamped in the shell near the fuse hole are those of an inspector. I know from research that Selma was a great center of military munitions, anmmunition and other war materials manufacturing and references give a number of possibilities for inspectors whose names would fit the "JW" stamp. But, I was wondering if anyone knows if ammunition was also manufactured in Montgomery? Any help or references to check would be appreciated. Thanks very much.
