Re: Artillery pin?
In Response To: Artillery pin? ()

The 28th Virginia Artillery Battalion was commanded by Major William B. Tabb. It was raised by Special Orders No. 218, dated September 17th, 1862. It consisted of the companies of Captains Ellis, Bossieux, Carrington and Reed and assigned to the Richmond Defences, mainly Chapin's Bluff. In October, 1862, the battalion, along with two companies of the 20th Virginia Infantry were merged into the 59th Virginia infantry. This new 59th Virginia Infantry was the reconstituted 2nd Regiment, Wises' Virginia Legion. The battalion ceased to exist after this merger. This information is in the Official Records, Volume 51, serial #108 on pages 619, 635 and 636.
I hope this is the unit you seek.
